"Once we clearly acknowledge the soul, we can learn to hear it's cries. - Dallas Willard, Renovation Of The Heart."

It takes courage to pursue our dreams. It takes time and patience to unearth buried treasure. But I believe with all my heart that we must do both.

working on something

My husband walked into the studio last night and said, you have a new painting!  I asked him, do you think it's finished??  I know, I know, that was probably not nice.  :)  Now how is he going to answer that loaded question I ask you?  So I asked another.  I asked him if I handed it to him to hang in his office would he hang it up??  He said yes!  Then I asked him if he really thought it was finished and not just being nice.??  He said, "yes, it could be finished!"  It's funny because I am not sure where to take this.  Part of me actually likes it, part of me says you need to do more, it's really not done.

So, I will let it sit for a bit.

I really do think it is incomplete as is.

I am learning to let things sit and simmer, even in my heart.  To be okay with something not finished.  I used to not like waiting.  Somehow it's easier at this point in my life.

Live the moments of this day, even if you are waiting......

Grace and peace

Hi Mary,
I love your painting, such bright and gorgeous colors! I like your advice too, sometimes it's okay for things to be 'unfinished'.
Happy weekend, we're going to have great weather!

Good Morning Sweet Mar,
Yes, waiting is very hard but then so is growth....and growth takes time....staying in the moment is a challenge but then the fog lifts and we are able to see more of the path and the steps we need to take.....I can't wait to see what you decide.....

Many hugs and have a blessed day precious friend,

Love the painting and it could be finished. Great post to "sit and simmer". I have to learn that instead of stew.....

That's a bit like asking your other half 'Does my bum look big in this?'!!!
Love the brightness and vibrancy of this. As for whether it's finished, only you can decide ... come back to it in a few days with fresh eyes.
P.S. I would happily hang it in my house :-)

Mary, I'm smiling because I also ask my "poor" husband questions like that. Also, I am relating to your words "waiting" and "unfinished". It seems to be a season for that. I like Joji's take that she has learned to "sit and simmer" rather than stew. I think I'm still learning.

I do understand about that being a loaded question for your husband, I do it all the time, and he stands there trying to say the right thing. I love the colors, gonna try the same pallette. I think it is finished for the time being.

One day I read something that struck me - I don't remember the source but it stated that on the day we leave this world, there will still be things on the to-do list...I found that a comfort and also it made me feel like I could let go of the need to "get it all done" !Instead, I could concentrate on getting whatever I had in front of me done to the best of my ability and in ways that fill my heart and soul. Soem days I forget, but when I remember, I love living my life in this mindful, present way.
I love where the painting is right now - finished or not ! The colors and the shapes say "Mary is here." to me !
Happy Weekened, Beautiful Lady !

Such beautiful and bright colors. I love it the way it is but only you know if its finished or not. I think letting it sit for awhile is a good idea, I know this is hard to do,I do it all the time and I'm an anxious person.

Some of the most wonderful
and fulfilling parts in
stories are when there is still
another chapter or two to follow
but it's so rich and satisfying
that you could stop right there
and be happy.
It takes courage to go on
...because it's already nice and neat
and seems wrapped up.
Then the interesting or even painful twist.
And then,
finally,
resolution.
Sometimes I think we stop short of the
brave part.
I love it as is.
But I think there is more
....just because I see it in you:_

Good comments from all who have been following your awesome art. I'd put it on my wall as it is...but knowing you, there will be something you want to add...and if not, then it is finished..hehehe You know I ask Dewey all the time if he likes this one or that...most time he just says yes, but the other day he called me from work to say "you know that painting of the barns with has three cows in it?, well I think you need to put it in your shop cuz it's really good, and will probably sell". Never has he said that to me..hehhehe!!! I did put it in my shop Now he wants me to paint a really large canvas painting of it for our living room...go figure...love this one Mar...so Marylike!!!
love ya sis.

I think it needs something that I'm betting you will do and that is a bit of writing in black. Hauntingly beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving friend, Mollye
