"Once we clearly acknowledge the soul, we can learn to hear it's cries. - Dallas Willard, Renovation Of The Heart."
It takes courage to pursue our dreams. It takes time and patience to unearth buried treasure. But I believe with all my heart that we must do both.

weekend playing
Once a month we have a Greg and Mary day. Not that we don't do things together at other times, but these particular days are put on the calendar. They are on Fridays, and my husband and I spend the day together. I have to admit that there are more "Mary" days than there are "Greg days", and this Friday was no exception.
My husband asked me if I was getting low on art supplies...
is there ever a time we are not I ask???
We went to "Binders" in Buckhead. I don't go very often, but it's worth a trip now and again. They were having an incredible canvas sale as well.
Saturday my "girls" came over for an art day.(Bethany and Alice you were missed) I played with my new supplies.
Wonderful Holbein acrylic Gouache. Funny, I used them when I began journaling in 2007. I love the stuff, it gives you the flow that watercolor does with more intense opaque color and it is permanent when dry. I am liking the messy spontaneous results of it.
I also played with Derwent Intense Blocks and pencils.
I got this wonderful book of stencils. "Protest Stencil Toolkit" lol There are some I will probably never use, but there are lots I really like. I promise to only use them in my journals or on canvas!!! :)
Having fun playing with this looser, messy, free style. Carrying this journal with me, writing to do lists, notes, etc.
Oh, Jennifer over at Ripplespeak has moved. Go check out her new home, you don't want to miss a single yummy post.
xxoo

Your work is always so vibrant both in color and meaning Mary! Wish I could have made the trip to Binders with you. :)
What a great idea to have a day you and Greg are just together doing whatever.......what a plus to a stop at the art store.....It sounds like you found some wonderful new "toys" to play with......

OH, I love Binders--it's not too far from here, you make me want to GO there--haha. Looks like you had a great time 'playing'. Congrats on getting new 'toys'.
what delightful pages and I adore the date days - particularly if the partner is so willing to make them art days!
I LOVE your pages Mary!!! Your new supplies sound just fabulous! Gotta love an art supply store...Binders, huh....sounds delightful!
Never heard of Binders, but it sure sounds good! What a fun idea for a day together! Your husband sounds sweet!
Date days are so important...how easily busy schedules can get in the way of time together! I like the loose notebook style too...but I need to learn to play more...Aloha, Connie
Fantastic journal pages Mary, I'm always so inspired by what you create :-)
Love the messy yet still Mary-ness of these pages ! You know black ink speaks to me.
How blessed you are to have a Greg that gets your Mary so well. ;-)
Happy Monday!
Never heard of binders. Lol about having more mary days but I love the idea of just spending the day together. Thats sweet. Love your journal pages, such vibrant colors. Beautiful.
Yes! It worked....the setting change
was just the ticket! Hooray!
Isn't Binders just the juiciest candy store
of art supplies! I love that place.
And your pages....spare moments spent well indeed!
And you.
Just so much I love you:)
-Jennifer
What a fun way to spend a day! I always enjoy seeing your work.
Sounds like a great time to me :-) Love the new pages, lots of fun.
Bright and cheery play, sounds like a fun adventure. xox Corrine
Mary it looks like you had a great creative time!
Oh I love the idea of the Mary and Greg day!!! Need to start a Lee Ann and Scott monthly day like that too. And to think he wanted to go to the art supply store with you is even more awesome!
Mary, I wish I could get back to art journaling again. I started my new job last October and although it is only 3 days a week, I feel I'm all messed up when it comes to my time creating. I need it so much. I think I need to be a fairy and fly your way and come be with you and your girls in your studio art fun time together. I'm sure that would get me back on the right foot and cure my woes!!!
Hey, there should be no more warning problems any more when stopping by my blog. It is fixed. Let me know though if it pops up again.
Love you,
Lee Ann
I'd imagine asking you if you're low on art supplies is akin to asking me if I'm low on pencils! ;)
I love coming here and looking at your work. I am in awe every time!
I have been wanting to work with gouache (sp?) for some time...I got some samples in my last order from Dick Blick Art...I need to try them asap...very colorful :)
