Heading to North Carolina tomorrow to lead a visual journaling workshop.
Will post a bit more later, don't think I can post a link from here.
"Once we clearly acknowledge the soul, we can learn to hear it's cries. - Dallas Willard, Renovation Of The Heart."
It takes courage to pursue our dreams. It takes time and patience to unearth buried treasure. But I believe with all my heart that we must do both.

here's the finished spread
i am learning quite a bit as i do these
what i like and what i don't
leaving a bit of space between writing and elements, not overcrowding things
i smeared the ink on the top left corner (bummer) and just left it, life is messy
there are things i would do different on this page if i had it to do over, but that's okay
not sure i am totally pleased with the colors, but it's one journal spread, there will be more
hope you all have a good weekend
do something fun

another beginning and stamps
beginnings of a new spread, and i carved stamps!
the borders on both of these are stamps i carved. a new experience for me.
this class is stretching me a bit.

lazy afternoon
this is where i spent the afternoon.
i had a journaling workshop this morning. i love doing them, but i am pooped when i get home.
Ansley Denihan at Two Cities Two Girls (who is an amazing artist) was at my workshop.
check out her beautiful pages.
so i headed for the porch for a little nap and ended up spending the afternoon there.
love the view from the couch. that's the original smokehouse. that tangle of branches in the background will soon be covered with beautiful roses.
the sky was beautiful
all the bushes and trees are in bloom around the house.
i took these through the screen...
the pollen has begun, there are days you look out through a thick haze of yellow.
hope you all are having a lovely weekend.

more playing
more from Judy's class.
i have wanted to paint my own papers for ages, just never began till now.
playing more with faces.
i have favorite parts in each of these...wonder if i will ever get them on one face? lol
i woke up this morning, ran down to watch today lesson, i did grab a cup of coffee.
did not shower till 11:30 and just now had a piece of wheat bread, spread with peanut butter and half a banana sliced on top.
i wanted to thank you all for your sweet well wishes. i am feeling better each day.
in fact, i am going for a hair cut and PURPLE today! y i p p e e e e e e e !!!

faces??
i don't usually paint faces.
i really had no desire to paint them, and there's the fact that i don't draw very well.
but i am taking Judy Wise's wonderful mixed media journal class.
wouldn't you know one of the first lessons included painting a face.
so i did it,
and i liked it, kind of...i like the first one better than the second.
i think i like the little off kilter faces better than realistic faces anyway (and that's not because i can't do them)
i just like the offbeat stuff.
we were to write about our perfect day...
it took me a bit of thinking to really come up with what that would be.
i surprised myself.
i do that every now and then.

best ever
this was the best chicken soup i have ever had.
no kidding!
made me feel all warm and cozy inside, and loved.
here's the recipe, go make it.
Chicken Noodle Soup
16 cups canned chicken broth (low-salt if you prefer)
1 3 1/2-pound chicken, cut into 8 pieces
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 carrots, peeled, thinly sliced
2 celery stalks, sliced
(we used three of each)
2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
8 oz. dried wide egg noodles
1/2 cup finely chopped fresh parsley
Combine chicken broth and chicken in heavy large pot. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; cover partially and simmer until chicken is cooked through, about 20 minutes. Remove chicken to large bowl. Cool chicken and broth slightly. Discard skin and bones from chicken. Cut chicken meat into bite-size pieces and reserve. Spoon fat off top of chicken broth.
Return broth to simmer. Add onion, carrots and celery. Simmer until vegetables soften, about 8 minutes. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover chicken meat and broth separately and refrigerate. Bring broth to boil before continuing.)
Melt 2 tablespoons butter in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms and saute until beginning to brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in lemon juice. Add mushrooms to broth; stir in noodles, parsley and reserved chicken. Simmer until noodles are tender, about 5 minutes. Season soup to taste with salt and pepper.

Yum, Yum, Yum!!

okay, it's late and it's been a long day and i look like crap, but wanted to show you fun with watersoluble crayons.
lee ann mentioned on jennifer's blog that you could use these as temporary hair dye.
meg and i played with them and they kind of worked. her's did not show up as well. i think it worked better on my grey.
i am seriously thinking about getting it done for real...like next week.
thinking purple...meg said if i did blue i would really be a blue haired...lol
well if i am gonna be a blue haired this is the kind of blue i want!!
3.01.2012
calendars, journals and ramblings
i am always on the search for the perfect calendar...
and lipstick shade!!
i have yet to find a calendar that meets all my needs/wants. i seem to try something different every year...well okay, maybe several different things in the same year (there are people reading this that know me) lol
i have used daytimers, various planners from the office supply store and i am always left with the feeling something is lacking.
i know, we are are only talking about calendars but....
i tired keeping my calendar on my iPad, but i missed the paper.
i also want to be able to journal when i am out and about, or waiting for an appointment, and don't want to carry a calendar and a notebook, and a journal.
last year i used a journal and made my own calendar pages, had lots of pages to journal and make notes on.
it was a little too big, got tired of lugging it around, and it was hard to find things in a hurry...but i liked it.
this year i got a calendar book from erin condren. like it, but it does not contain as many blank pages as i would like for keeping notes on various things i am working on.
so, i decided to paint some of the weekly pages (that i don't always use) and keep notes, or paint and journal on.
the monthly tabs in this journal are paper...they do not wear well.
also, i am doodling and journaling in a different way for me.
i picked up art journaling pages in stages by dawn sokol.(a dvd by cloth paper scissors) i have always liked the way she uses images in a random manor and her doodling style, much different than mine.
i think it will help with my lettering which is not so great as well.
the green and blue double page is my first the little girl is me, second grade i think. my daughter hates that picture of her, but i love the look between us.
the photo on the right in the first spread (not finished) is my mom and dad, oldest sister ginger, and the twins, tommy and bev...some of you know her as bevie, my precious older sister.
i have a feeling these will morf more into my style the more i do them.
or not
who knows
gee-sh, i am rambling here...one of those day.
the though came to me in the shower (does anyone else get ideas in the shower) that what i really need to do is make my own.
